Bared to You – SYLVIA DAY

Bared to You is the first in the Crossfire trilogy by American Author Sylvia Day.

Gideon Cross came into my life like lightning in the darkness—beautiful and brilliant, jagged and white-hot. I was drawn to him as I’d never been to anything or anyone in my life. I craved his touch like a drug, even knowing it would weaken me. I was flawed and damaged, and he opened those cracks in me so easily…

Gideon knew. He had demons of his own. And we would become the mirrors that reflected each other’s most private wounds… and desires.

The bonds of his love transformed me, even as I prayed that the torment of our pasts didn’t tear us apart…

I saw people talking about this book off the back of conversations about the Fifty Shades Trilogy so I thought I’d check it out. I was pleasantly surprised! There are many similarities to the Fifty Shades in that a young woman stumbles into the office of a very attractive and wealthy businessman and he wants to “make love” to her straight away.

There is a story to this book and to me the characters are slightly more believable. Both the male and female leads have been scared from childhood experiences which become clearer as the story progresses. I think I understood Gideon a little more than Eva as I had trouble with the repetition of her “running away”. Whilst there is less “sex” to this book than others on the market, what there is very real and “normal”, it doesn’t venture into the S&M area therefore some may find easier to read. I would point out that what there is extremely detailed and may make those that blush easy do exactly that!

Sylvia Day has written a very descriptive and erotic book that may not interest everyone. It stands alone as a single book however, there are still some things that are not explained and if you felt some connection with the leads I am sure this would make you want to read the other two books that will be published by Penguin – Deeper in You will be available in October 2012.

I believe that this book has a lot less hype in the UK, however it has been a huge success over in America. Overall, I have to say that I really enjoyed it. I am not totally sure if it was the story I enjoyed or the subject matter!!! (This is a genre I never thought I’d get into but it’s the fourth book like it I’ve read in less than 3 weeks!) For those that can’t decide if they want to read such genre may I suggest you try this one first over others in the Market.

Great review, shall have to check this out as loved Fifty Shades trilogy!

  2. Interesting cover… very evocative. Not sure it’s my cuppa but will add to TBR. Thanks, lou!

  3. Interesting review, Lou, of what sounds like a well wriiten book. I’m sure it will do well with those who enjoyed 50 Shades (which I have to admit to not having read – yet!) and who are looking for more more in this genre. Really like the cover.

  4. Ease yourself in you mean, Lou. Um, maybe I’ll rephrase that! Fair and honest review. Am tempted. 🙂 xx
